Tantalus Vineyards

Established in 2004, Tantalus Vineyards is proud to present its first vintage of wines, beginning with the release of our Riesling in the spring of 2006.

Situated on the eastern slopes of the Okanagan Valley, Tantalus Vineyards overlooks the city of Kelowna and the shores of Lake Okanagan.

Originally known as Pioneer Vineyards, the site was first planted to grapes in 1927, and is one of the oldest continuously producing vineyards in the province. Today, Riesling and Pinot Noir vines planted in 1978 make up the backbone of the vineyard.

Fifty acres of unique and varied topography, along with an arid climate consisting of hot daytime temperatures followed by cool evenings, create an ideal site. The soils are primarily silt loams, their origins dating back to the last ice age and the formation of an ancient lake whose depth rose 250 meters above the current level of Lake Okanagan.

Each block of the vineyard demonstrates its own particular aspect and slope. This allows us to grow and vinify small lots of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as separate batches of our flagship Riesling. Hand tending the vines and practicing sustainable viticulture allows our wine to express the true character of this historic vineyard.
