Stoneboat Vineyards is the culmination of two decades of grape growing/farming that began in 1978 when Julie and Lanny Martiniuk decided to leave the lower mainland and move to the Okanagan Valley, where Julie was born and raised. They hoped to buy a vineyard with their savings; Lanny would leave his career in nuclear medicine to farm it, while Julie would continue practicing pharmacy. Because no vineyard land was for sale, they settled for 15-acre orchard on the Black Sage and bought it on a handshake in 1979, eventually converting the entire property to vinifera.
